Day 10 (8-15-11)

Good day to all from Root Ranch!  It rained a little during the night which was nice.  I forgot to mention something on yesterdays blog.  I’ve decided to blog a little at a time as I  forget things I want to say.

So far I have mended 2 sleeping bags, 2 leather gloves, and one pair of pants.  I am sad to say that the pants did not survive and we had to have a burial for Ashley’s pants.  I tried, I really did but I just couldn’t save them!  They lived less than 24 hours before the holes took over and we had to put them out of their misery!  Farewell to Ashley’s favorite jeans!  🙂

The prank did not go as planned but it sure was fun putting it together.  We took aluminimum cans and put little rocks in them and tied three together on Garretts fishing line that I confiscated after the trip wire prank.  We were going to put the cans under three of the beds in the boys tent but you could see them.  We were all three laughing so hard….I thought Ashley was going to pee her pants.  Jocelyn and I were both holding our stomaches they hurt so bad.  Micah came into the girls tent at one point and saw three cans laying there tired to the string.  He wanted to know who did that.  We made up the story that Jocelyn was trying to play a trick on Ashley.  I’m sure Bryan and RJ saw the cans hanging from Micah’s bed before we moved them.  If they didn’t see them, they sure heard them when Ashley got hung up in them.  It was pretty funny.  The boys weren’t ammused.  We ended up putting them in a trench that they boys dug around the tents in case of rain.  We then rigged them so we could pull the fishing line from inside our tent.  At 6:30 am we tried to get Ashley to wake up and pull the line but she didn’t want to.  She didn’t want to get up….I also think she’s afraid of what the retaliation will be, as we have been promised there will be one!  We have our next one planned out.  We just need to inlist some help.  Ashley and Jocelyn pulled on the line and not much happened so Jocelyn went running out of our tent and started pulling on the line from outside.  It sounded loud in our tent but I guess not so loud in the boys tent!  Darn it anyway!  Ashley came up to the lodge to take care of business and Jocelyn went back out and shook the cans again.  Ashley said she could hear them clear up to the Lodge and we scared some of the horses.  Oh well, we will get them next year!  🙂

I will update more after dinner if there is anything to update.  We just continue plugging away!

So, a furry little creature is playing games with me.  We brought flagging material up with us in case we needed to mark trees.  Yesterday I found one roll on the floor in our tent.  I picked it up and put it in my backpack with the rest of my things.  Today we were working behind the tent and laying there by a tree were both the red and orange rolls of flagging.  Whatever it is it has chewed around the edges.  Micah put them in my tent and put them in a pocket in my backpack and zipped it up.  I’d like to see him get it now!!  🙂

Today Jon started making stools in some of the tree stumps left after cutting a dead tree down.  We liked them so much he cut them off and we carried them over to the campfire area!  Dale helped cut one off so Ashley could carry it over to the campfire area.  Pretty cool!

Yesterday I saw a chipmunk hanging from one of the pinecones they have tied to the railing around the deck.  They put peanut butter on them.  It was pretty cute!  He was almost swinging back and forth.  He was stretched out pretty good too! 😉

I had to wake all of them up except for Jocelyn after lunch today to get them back out there.  They have worked hard.  I am grateful for them and for the example they have been here at Root Ranch.  Everyone continues to do a good job and work hard!

Until tomorrow, Goodnight!
